Government to Co-Fund Domestic Shipping via Northern Sea Route in 2022
In 2022, the Russian Federal Government intends to give support to an initiative to launch a regular shipping line on the Northern Sea Route. 560 million rubles will be allocated to subsidize at least two voyages of cargo vessels from North-West Russia to the Russian Far East.
The statement was made by Gadzhimagomed Guseynov, the First Deputy Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic, at a governmental panel session presided by Vice Premier Yuri Trutnev. According to Guseynov, the draft subsidy regulations have already been submitted to the Government by the Ministry.
The Ministry believes that a new subsidy mechanism will help show the freight companies that shipping through the Northern Sea Route is a good choice -- in terms of both domestic and international freight. It will also contribute to promoting the NSR as an all-season route, the Ministry says.
